Your Last Publication

Don’t save your best for later.

A few months back, I asked key people for suggestions of someone to write on an upcoming topic. One jumped at the opportunity to write it himself.

A few weeks later, he approached me with another piece.

I hesitated to place it in the same issue, but it fit perfectly. Both articles were right on target: practical, succinct, memorable. I hoped he’d continue to write regularly for the magazine.

But that’s not to be. This next issue will also contain his obituary. He died in a tragic accident.

He likely never suspected these two articles would be his last. But he’d given them his best. In a life filled with few certainties, that’s the way to write.
