Unexpected Opportunities

Out of the blue came a chance to learn from one of the best.

If you’re interested in writing adventure novels, what would you say to taking a class from Clive Cussler, Tom Clancy, or James Rollins?

Or how about the next best thing: a class from someone who’s co-authored with all three of those bestselling writers?

A few days ago, I was surprised to see a Facebook post for such an opportunity, sponsored by Northern Colorado Writers. On July 14, 21, 28, and August 4, Grant Blackwood would be conducting, via Zoom, four one-hour sessions designed to “take aspiring authors from discovering and developing story ideas to tackling their dream of writing a novel.” Participants would learn “immediately applicable tools and techniques.”

For just $25 per session, wanna-be novelists could learn:
Week 1: How to think like a writer: story idea exploration and discovery
Week 2: Defining plot vs. story: honing story ideas into premise lines
Week 3: Developing a blueprint of your story
Week 4: Turning your story blueprint into a living, breathing novel

Can’t attend these sessions? In the wake of COVID-19, more writers conferences and groups are converting to online instruction. Without leaving your home, you can learn key details of the writer’s craft from top professionals.

Keep your eyes and ears open. When the opportunity arises, join the adventure.
