Stories from Troubles

Others will appreciate the lessons you learned.

A few years back, Fred had a really bad day. In the midst of a long-planned-for event, trouble struck. Aided by friends, he set to work to repair the damage. Eventually he got back on the road … a little more experienced, a little wiser.

Fred would have been happy to forget that incident, but I intruded. I asked him to write an article offering wisdom on the trouble that had temporarily left him stranded.

Reluctantly, he agreed. I’m glad he did.

His article has a lot going for it. Not only does he know his topic, but he conveys his information in the best way. Although he had the credentials to direct others what to do, he refrained from preaching.

Instead, he simply told his story … and what he’d learned from it. His tone was that of a friend discussing what he had learned — and how.

Now all the magazine’s readers can walk in Fred’s shoes … and either avoid that trouble or know how to respond if it comes. For any writer, that’s a high accomplishment.
