Name Calling

Do your social media posts undermine your message?

The past few weeks, several writers weighed in multiple times on the latest issue that’s polarized people across the nation.

As the developments continued, some writers’ posts grew progressively heated, finally degenerating into name-calling.

I can only assume they want their published writing to reach only those with whom they agree. After all, those who take a different view are at best deceived, but more likely evil subhumans. (Otherwise, why call them such names?)

I can only assume they want their published writing to reach only those with whom they agree.

Could these writers’ messages ever convince the opposition to change their mind — or even tempt them to listen? Even on a less divisive issue?

Not if they ever see these social media posts.

What’s your calling as a writer: to speak only to your likeminded friends — or also to others? Please, consider that before you post.
