What do you do when you can’t jot a quick note?
When I’m away from a keyboard, I’m usually close to a pen and paper. But one recent Saturday, I lacked access to either.

You never know when an idea will appear.
I was driving a lonely highway in northern Wyoming as part of a caravan of Model A Fords. Somewhere south of Sundance, an idea appeared for an article that could launch a series for the magazine I produce.
But how could I capture that idea? Pulling off the road was not an option. Then I remembered the mini voice recorder in my backpack. With its one-handed operation, I could record a quick note while I guided the Model A down a straight stretch.
A few days later at my desk, I replayed the recording, then wrote the article.
Don’t have a digital voice recorder? Check your phone. Then remember it the next time you get a great idea away from your keyboard.
